MICRAL ordinateur souverain Made in France

Le Micral N, est le premier micro-ordinateur de l’histoire de l’informatique, créé en France au tout début de l’hiver 1973, dans la société R2E. En décembre 1972, dans une cave de Châtenay-Malabry, l’ingénieur François Gernelle met au point un ordinateur autour d’un microprocesseur Intel 8008 8 bits, cadencé à 500 KHz, avec des cartes mémoire de type MOS qui embarquent 2Ko de RAM.
Cet ordinateur avait un OS souverain, le SYSMIC, raccourci de SYStème pour MICral. C’était un OS temps réel et multitâches dévéloppé spécialement pour les micro-ordinateurs Micral de la société R2E. Il deviendra le système d’exploitation multi-utilisateurs Prologue en 1978.

Mais François Gernelle, ne deviendra jamais Steve Jobs ou Bill Gates. Lancé sur le marché français depuis un an, le succès du Micral dans plusieurs branches professionnelles (Crédit Agricole, Autoroute Paris-Chambéry ») avait suscité l’intérêt des Américains.
Un jour de l’année 1975, dans un bar de Los Angeles, il prenait un pot avec le patron de Honeywell qui proposait 2 millions de dollars pour l’achat du Micral et de son logiciel Prologue pour les Etats-Unis. Sans raison, Truong, le patron de la société R2E a demandé 4 millions et le boss d’Honeywell, pas très content, a quitté la table.
