Ne m’appelez plus NEIMAN

Un neiman est un dispositif antivol installé sur la colonne de direction des automobiles ou des motos, un système mécanique comprenant 75 pièces différentes miniaturisées.

Inventé en 1931 par l’industriel Abram Neiman qui créa une entreprise autour de cette invention, il fut popularisé après la seconde guerre mondiale.

L’entreprise Neiman appartient aujourd’hui au groupe Valeo, au sein de la branche Valeo Securité Habitacle (VSS).

Valeo a annoncé vendredi 30 novembre la cession de son activité mécanismes d’accès au groupe japonais U-Shin sur la base d’une valeur d’entreprise de 223 millions d’euros.

Cette activité, qui comprend sa marque Neiman, regroupe des prduits tels que les verrous, antivols de direction, poignées et serrures. En 2012, elle devrait génerer en 2012 un chiffre d’affaires de 580 millions d’euros. Elle emploie au total 4 500 personnes réparties sur 12 sites industriels et dispose d’une forte implantation en Europe et en Amérique du Sud

Fuyant le Nazisme qui ne se satisfaisait plus de sa nationalité roumaine, Abram Neiman trouva refuge en France en 1938. Né en 1893 à Orhei, en Bessarabie, sur le territoire de la République de Moldavie, ce jeune homme était venu à Toulouse entreprendre des études d’ingénieur en 1912. La première Guerre mondiale le surprit tandis qu’il rendait visite à sa famille : arrêté par l’armée allemande, il fut interné quatre années durant.

Après quelques années passées au service d’un fabricant de machine-outils, il partit s’installer en Allemagne au milieu des années vingt, afin de parfaire sa formation et de décrocher (enfin) son diplôme d’ingénieur. L’inspiration de l’antivol de direction lui viendra lorsqu’un malandrin lui dérobera sa motocyclette…

En 1931, l’Allemagne édicte une loi qui engage la responsabilité du propriétaire en cas de vol de son véhicule. C’est le coup de pouce qui manquait à A. Neiman pour commercialiser sa serrure antivol. Dans la foulée, l’ingénieur fut embauché par la FRankenberg and MOtorenwerk (ou FRAMO) qui souhaitait ajouter à ses activités de fabrication de pièces détachées pour DKW d’une part, et de fabrication de tricycles utilitaires d’autre part, une gamme de voiturettes bon marché. Neiman participa à l’élaboration de voitures FRAMO à trois puis à quatre roues, restées célèbres outre-Rhin.

Nadia Neiman, la fille d’Abram, a raconté la vie de cet homme hors du commun en 2006 dans un ouvrage intitulé : « Neiman, parcours d’un inventeur« . Sa lecture ravira les amateurs d’histoire industrielle, d’histoire automobile, comme d’Histoire tout court, avec un grand « H ».
