SERVAL va changer la téléphonie

Le projet SERVAL est un projet open source de téléphonie mobile qui risque de ne pas plaire aux opérateurs de téléphonie mobile et aux dictateurs de la planète.

L’objectif du projet c’est pouvoir téléphoner sans opérateurs (sans carte SIM) et ainsi s’affranchir de tous les controles inposés dans des pays totalitaires.

Serval a été inventé par Paul Gardner-Stephen, un chercheur australien de l’université Flinders d’Adelaïde, avec l’aide d’étudiants de l’Institut national des sciences appliquées de Lyon (INSA Lyon).

Il fonctionne selon le principe d’un maillage (« mesh ») consistant à créer des réseaux temporaires et mouvants, entièrement décentralisés. Lorsque deux appareils sont proches l’un de l’autre (quelques centaines de mètres), ils se parlent en direct. S’ils sont trop éloignés, les autres téléphones Serval se trouvant dans la même zone captent automatiquement la communication et la retransmettent, de proche en proche – sans que leurs propriétaires aient à faire quoi que ce soit.

L’application ANDROID est sur l’Android market ou sur le site du projet : Serval Mesh
Il faut rooter son téléphone pour le débloquer des contraintes opérateurs.
L’application est prévue aussi sur les téléphones Symbian S60, S40 et J2ME.
C’est pour l’instant une version Beta developpeur, la version publique est prévue fin 2012.
