Le CubeStormer II résout le jeu de Rubik’s Cube plus rapidement qu’un humain.
Ce robot ARM Powered a été conçu, construit et programmé par Mike Dobson et David Gilday, créateurs respectivement de CubeStormer.
La mécanique est construite entièrement à partir de LEGO, dont quatre Mindstorms NXT, avec l’ajout d’un smartphone Samsung Galaxy S II qui fait tourner une application dédiée sur Android.
L’application utilise la caméra du téléphone pour capturer des images de chaque face du cube de Rubik, qui les traite pour déterminer les couleurs. La solution est trouvée en utilisant un algorithme, initialement développé pour Speedcuber, amélioré pour être multi-thread et pour une utilisation efficace du dual-core du smartphone ARM Cortex-A9 processeur 1.2GHz. Le logiciel trouve une solution efficace pour le casse-tête qui est optimisé spécifiquement pour les capacités du processeur. Le soft communique via Bluetooth avec le logiciel et fonctionne avec les microprocesseurs ARM dans les briques LEGO NXT Intelligent qui contrôle les moteurs d’entraînement du robot. L’application utilise OpenGL ES sur le bras du téléphone Mali-400 MP GPU pour afficher une version graphique du cube en temps réel.
