VP8 le format Vidéo libre

Aujourd’hui à la conférence  Google I / O :  Google a confirmé que le projet WebM était « OPEN ».
Webm comprend:
– VP8, un codec vidéo de haute qualité publié sous licence  BSD, libre de redevance
– Vorbis, une source déjà ouverte et largement mise en œuvre le codec audio
– un format conteneur basé sur un sous-ensemble des médias le conteneur Matroska

Toutes les vidéos de YouTube seront disponibles encodés avec VP8. Ce codec, avec la même qualité que H.264, réduit la bande passante jusqu’à 50% de moins.
Opera a également soutenu le codec VP8 avec la présence du CTO (Chief Technology Officer) . Mozilla a également annoncé un soutien pour VP8 .
Adobe par leur CTO, Kevin Lynch, a annoncé que’Adobe soutiendra ce codec avec le reste de la norme HTML5. Donc Flash lira du VP8.. D’autres entreprises ont également exprimé leur soutien pour le codec de Google, tels que Skype, Logitech, Nvidia, Qualcomm et Texas Instruments.

Que pouvons-nous attendre de cela?   Firefox, Chrome et Opera représentent 40% des utilisateurs d’Internet.. En outre, VP8 fournit plus de facilités et d’outils pour l’encodage que H.264. Il est également libre et ne pose pas de problèmes de licences de logiciels,  VP8 s’annonce donc comme le nouveau standard d’encodage vidéo.
