Le dessin, de 33 par 23 cms, a été vendue en 1998 aux enchères à New York pour 19000 $ (environ € 12.800), mais si la nouvelle attribution est vrai, il atteindrait 150 millions de dollars (environ 101,5 millions d’euros), selon les experts.
Pour le professeur Martin Kemp, la jeune fille représentée par Leonard de Vinci pourrait être Bianca Sforza, la fille du duc de Milan, Ludovico Sforza (1452-1508), et de sa maîtresse Bernardina de Corradis.
